Kanya Kumari is one of the most sought after tourist and pilgrimage destinations in India. The city got its name after the Virgin Goddess Kanya Kumari, one of the names of goddess Parvati. This city is known for its natural beauty, its spectacular beaches and for its religious value. By Air- At a distance of 100 Km from Kanya Kumari is located the nearest airport which is Trivandrum International Airport.

By Train - Kanya Kumari is well connected with railways and Kanya Kumari Junction is only 1 km far of the city center. Trivandrum is the major railway station near Kanya Kumari which is connected with all the major cities in the country.

By Road - Tamil Nadu road transport corporation buses are always available for Kanya Kumari and connect it with other major cities in the state. Private buses with AC facilities are also available.

Best time to visit Kanya Kumari has a moderate climate and temperature ranges from 22° C to 32° C. The best time to visit Kanya Kumari is in winter, from the month of October to February.

Tourist destinations

Kumari Amman Temple - This is the most popular and a must visit temple in Kanya Kumari. The temple is dedicated to Virgin Goddess Parvati, also Known as Kanya Kumari. According to the Hindu mythology Godess Parvati decided to get married with Lord Shiva while Lord Shiva did not appear on the day of wedding. After this, the Goddess decided to remain virgin throughout her life. Kanya Kumari Temple was later built to honor this vow of the Goddess.

Thiruvalluvar Statue - Thiruvalluvar Statue is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Kanya Kumari. It is a 38 ft high statue of Thiruvalluvar and weighs more than 7000 tons. More than 500 craftsmen worked to create this awe inspiring statue.

Padmanabhapuram Palace - Padmanabhapuram Palace is located near Padmanabhapuram Fort and was built around 1601 CE by Iravi Verma, one of the rulers of Travancore. It is one of the traditional Kerala buildings and this is what attracts the tourists most here.

Gandhi Mandapam - It is a special temple and one of the greatest monuments to visit. In this temple the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi are kept and the Mandapam was erected in honor of this famous Indian leader.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial - Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a very beautiful monument which stands in one of the two rocks located around 500 m off the mainland. The monument was built in 1970 in honor of great spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda.

St. Xavier Church - St. Xavier Church is a Roman Catholic Church. It is dedicated to Mother Mary and was built during the missionary work of Saint Xavier in India. An annual festival of 10 days is celebrated here which is attended by Christians and non Christians as well.

Thiruparrapu Falls - Thiruparrapu Falls is located about 5 km from Kulasekaram. The natural beauty and the gurgling of cascading water attract the tourists to this place. In this picturesque beauty a Shiva temple is also situated. It is known as Shivalaya Ottam Temple.
